National Conference of Cancer Self Help Groups (NCCHSG) 2009

This year was the conferences 25th Anniversary!!!!!!

The journey up to Manchester was uneventful, but we were excited, anticipating meeting old friends and looking forward to making new ones. As we approached Owens Park, we remembered landmarks, roads etc, then in the distance we could srr the complexes Tower Block - we had arrived!

As usual, we were bright and early on the Thursday morning to set up our stand in the Bitter Suite. We were not disappointed by the welcome - we certainly werent the first to arrive, and the first hour or so was filled with hugs, hellos and catch ups - it was brilliant. All the warm, fuzzy and comfortable feelings of coming home to spend time with your family and good friends was back - and that is exactly what it is like!

Once our stand with all the beautiful crystals, silver gemstone jewellery and leaflets was set up, we picked up our room keys and went to unpack our bags and freshen up. The rooms are used by students in term time - they are all en suite with a single bed, chest of drawers, fitted wardobe and work station / dressing table - more than adequate for our needs. On each floor there is a fully fitten kitchen/dining area where we can make tea, coffee etc. Everything we could need including a fridge and microwave!

Back at the Bitter Suite, business was booming as usual - and we were all looking forward to the Thursday night get together with Freds’ now infamous Quiz Night. All great fun, but where does he find those obscure questions from?

Time for bed after some socialising in the bar area. Not too far to walk - or they have the ‘golf carts’ with drivers to ferry you back and forth - free of charge!

Friday morning back to the stand after breakfast. More people are arriving all morning, and the conference proper begins. You can go upstairs to see and listen to the speakers, or sit downstairs as it is tannoyed through.

Workshops start on Friday afternoon - Emilys Poi workshops for the Friday and Saturday are already fully subscribed, and mine are virtually full too for crystals for beginners and how to use pendulums / dowsing crystals - there are loads of workshops to choose from - fantastic!.

Funds Raised at Recent Events

We have had a FANTASTIC start to the New Year of 2010 with our fund raising here at Gynae C.

Our biggest Psychic Fayre to date organised By Spirit & Tarot raised £134 after costs - fabulous result!

At the end of last year we attended the Steam Christmas Fayre in Swindon as their charity stall with a wonderful tombola where we raised a massive £534 - many thanks to everyone who helped out, and also everyone who bought tickets, and to the people, businesses, companies and organisations who so kindly donated some amazing prizes!

Please check out our events pages for our next fundraising events. If you can help out at all, please do contact us.

If you would like to hold a coffee morning, are holding an event and would like us to take part with our tombola, or any other fundraising for us, again, please contact us.

All donations are received with gratitude, and we appreciate the time and effort involved in any fund raising event.

So, once again a BIG THANK YOU all round!
